Siarter Iaith (Language Charter)
Beth ydi hwn? / What is this?
The Siarter Iaith is a Welsh Government strategy to raise the profile of Welsh in schools across the country. The aim is to improve children's welsh language skills to allow them to partake fully as a citizen of Wales in their later life. The Siarter Iaith provides a framework for schools to follow in order to achieve their full potential in the Welsh language. This framework is called Cymraeg Campus and it outlines 3 awards for schools to work towards (Bronze, Silver and Gold).
We were successful in achieving the Silver Award last year and are now very excited to be working towards our Gold Award! Amdani pawb!

Ein swyddi/Our jobs
- Meet with Mrs Pitt-Lacey to discuss how we can improve Welsh throughout the school.
- Encourage our class members to use our Welsh language in and out of class.
- Lead the Gwasanaeth Dydd Gwener.
- Count the Tocyn Iaith each week and announce the winner.
- Select a Welsh speaker of the week and award them with a certificate.
- Introduce and model a Welsh phrase every week, and listen out for children using it!
- Read a story in the Gwasanaeth Dydd Gwener and introduce new songs.
Friday Assemblies / Gwasanaeth Dydd Gwener
Every Friday Criw have taken on the role of leading whole-school assemblies. In our assembly we introduce the new 'Ymadrodd yr Wythnos' and also announce the Tocyn Iaith Winners. Each class loves the competition of using their Welsh language to earn tocynau! We also choose a Siaradwr yr Wythnos to present a certificate to each Friday. We love to read Welsh stories to everybody and read one most Fridays in assembly. We also enjoy teaching our friends new Welsh songs.

Dydd Mawrth Melys
We came up with the idea of 'Caffi Cymraeg' a couple of years ago, as a business to help our school make some money. We held Caffi Cefn every week on a Thursday, and we made an incredible £190! We kept track of our profit and out-goings and carefully added up the takings. As a result we were able to buy brand new welsh books to add to our class libraries! Anhygoel!
Now, we are trying our new idea of Dydd Mawrth Melys and are working with School Council on this. We help out by making sure that everyone uses their Welsh to pay for their sweet treats, including parents!

Denbigh Cluster Eisteddfod
We always take part in the Denbigh Cluster Eisteddfod, and it is brilliant to see so many taking part in the recitation and art competitions. It is a really fun morning where we get to see friends from other schools and celebrate together.
Da iawn pawb! / Well done everyone!
Caban Cymraeg / Welsh Cabin
We decided that it would be great if Criw had a space that they could use to encourage other pupils to take part in Welsh games and to use their Welsh langauge outside of the classroom. So, we ordered a sign and chalk board to turn our playground shelter into a Caban Cymraeg! We write welsh questions and phrases for everyone to practice, and have a basket of Welsh activities to take outside at playtimes.
Mae pawb yn mwynhau gemau buarth / Everyone is enjoying Welsh Games.
What are we working on?
Darllen Cymraeg
During a meeting with Mrs Pitt-Lacey, we discussed ways of developing welsh reading in school. We suggested that Junior pupils could lead group reading sessions with the Infants each week! It is fun to share the new books that we have bought, and help the infants with their reading and welsh language patterns. We take part in our Reading Buddies initiative twice a week, and we can use any book we like. Some even have Makaton signs in them so we can practice this as well!
Rydy ni'n hoffi darllen efo chi! / We like reading with you!
